Zoom has been the glimmer of light in a time that has shown humanity the darkest hours of anxiety and fear. Being virtually close to each other gives everyone a sense of security of community and oneness. But humans take a good concept and don’t wait long before adding salt and pepper as per their tastes. Meaning, we add on to the platform the silliest thing we can think of. Memes have taken over of the internet, and thus they’ve made their way to Zoom as well.
A generation that calls anything yesterday as “dinosaur”, does away with memes even faster than you’d expect. But there’s been a few exceptions that have passed through. Like the one meme inspired by the Rick Astley’s ‘80s hit “Never Gonna Give You Up” called “Rick Rolled”. It started as a prank back in 2017, on April Fool’s Day and has never gotten old since then.
And now we’ve gotten to a whole new level.
As reported by CNET, the man himself is Rick Rolling people on Zoom. Yes! That’s right. He’s in on it. The game is never going to end this way. If you want to be Rick Rolled during their Zoom meetings, now is the chance for you. A new ‘Rick Rolling’ service was created by techie Matt Reed which enables you to add Rick Astley and the infamous tune to your next Zoom meeting.
So, get to the site!
You have to go to InviteRick.com and create an invite link for a Zoom Meeting you want yourself in. Then you’re added to a queue. You get a place on the waiting list, and they tell you an estimated time before the meeting will be Rick Rolled with the signature song and Astley’s charm for everyone to see. And this lasts for around 15 seconds, so everyone is annoyed enough but not more than that. The perfect amount to get their eyes rolled.
This isn’t ‘exactly’ okay with Zoom
This service violates Zoom’s terms and conditions, and thus the future isn’t looking too strong for it. But until then you can surely take pleasure in Rick Rolling. And be confident of one thing from all this, no matter where humanity takes itself, Rick Rolling isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Whatever new trend ultimately takes over Zoom, Rick Astley will surely be seen there as well. You can’t stop him. He’s never going to give up.
