Easy Guide for Merging Two Facebook Accounts

Facebook is not unknown to anyone in this world; it’s one of the most used social networking platforms that has over 2 billion active users. Many people have multiple accounts on Facebook due to different reasons. And if you are one of these people, then you would know the time and years you have spent on maintaining and switching between different accounts. If you struggle to keep up with two of your Facebook accounts and deleting either of them is not a choice, then follow our guide to merge both the accounts quickly.

But note that Facebook doesn’t provide a direct way of merging accounts and auto-merging your friends’ list, photos, updates, etc. but using this guide, you can do every necessary thing manually. Unfortunately, you cannot migrate or re-create all of your data.

Download Your Facebook Data

Your first step should be to download all your Facebook data. It is a time taking process, so please be patient while doing so. The archive section will act as a minimal backup, and you have to decide if you want to deactivate or delete your account. But it wouldn’t help in restoring any data.

So, you should head to Setting & Security and from the left-hand bar, select Your Facebook Information. Then, click on View and tap on Download Your Information. It will direct you to a new page from where you can download all the information and get a copy of everything you’ve shared on Facebook. For downloading the data, click on All of My Data from the Date Range option. Then, select any Format and Media Quality of your choice. Click on Create File to get a copy.

This process will consume some time (up to 2 hours or more) based on the Archives you have on your account. Make sure that you download all the archives so that you do not miss out on any important information.

Restore Your Friends List

Since you cannot transfer the data related to your friends’ list, you have to add friends to your new account manually. You cannot even export your Facebook friends to a third-party account and re-import them later to a new Facebook account. But if you have the contact details of most of your friends on your smartphone, you can add them back through it. Use the following steps to do so:

  1. Open the Facebook app on your smartphone and go to Settings.
  2. Then, click on Media and Contacts and enable ‘Continuous Contacts Upload.

Using this method will ensure that the contacts from your phone are constantly uploading to the Facebook account. This way, you can easily find your lost friends.

Restore Your Data

This is another time-consuming step as you cannot upload or import the Archive to transfer your old Facebook account data to the new one. You have to perform most of the tasks manually. Starting from scratch, you have to recreate your friends’ list, re-upload the photos you had on your old account, re-tag everyone, re-join groups, and manually re-do all of your settings, including general account and privacy settings.

Deactivate or Delete Your Old Account

In case you want to deactivate or permanently delete your old Facebook account, then make sure that you add the new account as Admin to the groups and pages you handle, or else you will lose access to them. After ensuring all the precautions, you can proceed to delete or deactivate your account.

Facebook gives you access to your data but doesn’t let you have a smooth transfer or shift from one account to another. Apart from all the trouble and hassle you have to go through, you’ll lose quite a fair amount of data as well. You even have to go through the painstaking process of creating a new timeline.
